Summary: It Works, OS X Leopard, Bonjour & Vista
Comment: A nice printer. You take it out of the box and hook it up and print. I chose to set this up via USB and Airport using it as a Bonjour printer. HP forgot to include the setup poster but there were no surprises. Printer is fast and the color is OK. For the price this is a good value and does what it is advertised to do. BTW 4 clicks of the Mouse to set this up on my HP laptop running 64 bit Vista for wireless printing. That is worth the price of the printer. Steve Jobs done good on the Bonjour software and Vista. I did not elect to use any of the included HP software, just used what was already on OS X Leopard and Vista.

Summary: Never had a printer go in so short a time!
Comment: I'm disappointed in the fact that I was told it was new and I thought it was refurbished. Purchased it 11/30/08 and here we are Jan. 7, 2009 and it's not working. Seems to be a short somewhere. It was printing when I received it and now I can't turn it on by pressing the power button. The surge protector lights are on and I have another printer on the same s.protector which is working but the HP isn't.

Summary: Flawed (X-Bias spring flaw damages printer)
Comment: Because of a design flaw, there's a small plastic tab that holds the x-bias spring in place. When the tab breaks (notice I used the word when and not if), the spring will punch a hole in the circuit. As a result, my printer only does black and white.
HP provides pictures of this problem. Look for "Cannot Insert Print Cartridge" and you'll see the image of the spring out of place. What it doesn't show is an image of the damaged circuit.

Summary: Good value
Comment: Not the most expensive, not the cheapest - A good, solid value for its middle-of-the-road pricing. Easy to use, easy to set up. No complaints after one month of use.

Summary: Good enough
Comment: I needed a network color printer to supplement my laser on my linux home network. The 6940 fit the bill and the price was not too bad. Installation consisted of opening the box, removing some shipping tape, snapping the ink cartridges in, and plugging in an ethernet cable. That's it. I didn't even look at the instructions.
This printer makes pretty good photographic prints as well as standard paper color prints. It is pretty fast, the network feature works great, and the controls are simple. It's a slick product made by the premier inkjet printer manufacturer.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the 96/97 ink cartridges cost a ridiculous $39.95 (here on Amazon, more elsewhere). This printer uses the typical "lose money on the printer, make money on the ink" approach. Fortunately, there are refurbished cartridges out there that are half the price of the factory models. HP has announced inkjet printers that use much cheaper cartridges, but this isn't one of them.
